Welcome, welcome. Good ol 805. Anyway, yeah I think C-Street is a good spot as any to kick things off at around Ventura. Its a nice spot. Easy access. Good wave.
How are you progressing on the 6'6 Retro? Have you ever tried anything else yet? Are you getting it pretty easily or struggling a lot? Just curious.. (I learned on a 7ft mini-gun. hah)

Thank you.
I'm going to be honest, im having a bit of trouble catching anything. Its a thick board 3", i paddle out fine its just the wave just seems to pass under me and my positioning is off I believe.. I want to try a bigger board to see how easier it will be for me. Ive been out on a 6'2 thruster with no luck, a 5'9 7s superfish & no luck.I would have thunk that with the 6'6 id do fine but no luck!
but i will not give up!!..

I started to surf about 3 years ago when I was 25 years old, but I got my long board a almost at the end of the first year surfing, but it is not easy and it gives to you lot of great time ones you get to get more than one a day. I am still learning and have a hard time to get a wave but I love just the feeling of the one wave that I just had, so I try and try cause it is so great to do it.
P.S Husband, I wrote this long thing so you have the time to read it... lols I know that you love me. lols

To learn on a 6'6 retro is definitely a challenge, though easier than a standard gun shortboard. If you want an easier spot to learn at, try Mondos. Look on the Surf Spots page and there are directions on how to get there. I learned there for a couple of months before I moved to C-Street. I remember my first time surfing at C-Street and I couldn't catch anything. Do not give up hope because surfing is one of the most rewarding things you can do. Go to Mondos and if you are still dissatisfied after a month, move up to a funboard (7' to 8'). Rosa has about the same skill level I have, and everything she says is true.

The wave at C Street and especially the wave at Mondos is really a slow rolling wave most of the time that takes some paddling gusto and perfect positioning to get into the wave on a shortboard. So if you arent right at the peak just before it breaks youll miss most of the time. Just my 2 cents.

Im not going to give up that easy, if I cant seem to get it down Im for sure getting a bigger board..

Yeah man.. snag yourself a bigger funboard or longboard and give it a shot. You'll get a much better response, get more stand up wave time, and probably a LOT more stoke. But make sure you come back to the shorty's after you get your sea-legs. hahah
