San Diego to Santa Barbara

Good Spot to Surf at Near UCLA for Beginners?

Aug 19 11, 5:45 pm

As a newly incoming ucla student I'm curious as to nearby surfing spots to go surfing at for beginners?

I'll have a car and will be able to drive to Santa Monica though admittedly upon hearing of these surfing gangs out and about I'm more inclined to surf at a beginning break.

I'm all ears.

Sunset - right where Sunset ends at PCH just south of Gladstones. Don't let the rocks intimidate you. This is as mushy as it gets. Also it's a rocky point break so the shape holds really well. Grew up surfing here and crowds were pretty tame. Looks like a daily madhouse these days.

Thanks for the advice,

I just bought a longboard today to add to my six footer that's been quite tough to ride. Leaving to ucla in three weeks I'll make sure to check the spots mentioned above.

Go Bruins!

PM Me. I'm in Orange County and have heard people here talk about the break at Sunset, the rocks, the crowd. I want to go but hate going to new spots alone.
