San Diego to Santa Barbara

North crew question

Aug 09 09, 9:48 am

I took a quick check on two shops in down town Santa Cruz. All the wet suits were 4/3. Is this just for summer? I am one that gets cold very easy so I need one that will keep me surfing and not freezing. I have a 2/3 now, it's ok for down south, I even need it for summer down there haha. For north will I need a Hood? Gloves? Brrrrrrrr I am cold already LOL!! :D
I checked out Steamer lane too. This will most likely be the place I go the most I guess up here.
I wont be able to get another suit just yet but I will need another one for up here for sure.

Once I get everything together (just getting back into it still) maybe I can hook up with some of you north guys and gals some time too.
Besides I want to try out one of those New Trifish boards some day hehe :D

Ha, for sure man, you can pull out any of my boards if you ever want to give one a try. As for the wetsuit, I wear a 4/3 yearly. Booties & 4/3 for warmer weather, and booties/gloves,hood,4/3 for colder weather. The 4/3 does feel hot at times in the summer, but if you get cold easy then you wont mind. Hood and gloves make a huge difference but they do sorta annoy me at times. Also Santa Cruz feels warmer then the areas around San Francisco where im usually at. Theres nothing like duckdiving through that first wave at 6:30 am before work in Jan. haha. The thing that hurts me more is changing in the parking lot with the wind and colder temps. It can be ruff, so on cold days i even put on my wetsuit at my house before heading out.

Yeah, Im same as Rusty.. I surf Central Coast waters with my 3/2 and booties during winter... I wouldnt say Im perfectly fine though. I freeze badly and my fingers go numb and Im miserable after like 2 hours.. hah. But yeah.. I can do it. :/

It's a bit on the pricey end but definitely check out the Matuse Hoplite. Notice I linked to the 3/2 ... the 4/3 might be too hot. OG is sporting one of these.

Wow I can't imagine even wearing anything at all right now not even a rash guard. Water's been nice and cozy where I go.

:o but on saturday at huntington.. i honestly thought i was going to need to bust out my booties. It was RIDICULOUSLY COLD. I wasnt even planning on wearing a wetsuit :0. It wasnt just me , every single person out there had a wetsuit and some were also complaining about the cold.

Yeah I heard Bolsa / Sunset was cold too. For some reason Seal wasn't too bad. I was in boardshorts and it didn't bother me at all even today when it wasn't even sunny.

I think much of this has to do with BODY FAT! :D I trunked it on Saturday at Seal from 7:30am to 11am and was fine. Come on guy's, just look down the beach and watch all the little kids playing in the water, not one of them is wearing a wet suit, at least south of Long Beach. :D
