TS Outing July 17th Bolsa Chica

haha... jason hopes so! he actually caught alot of reforms on the inside yesterday and was so stoked. but he did mention that he didnt want to surf that spot again because he was constantly stepping on stingrays. good thing he has booties to offer some protection. i had a lot of fun little lefts before the drift. my zamora has alot of drive to beat out the crumbly sections.

the wave conditions were much better at bolsa tower 21 where my kids' group was camped out. no chop and nicely shaped 2 footers.

I don't normally worry about rays too much unless I'm at Seal. I step on them all the time there, but I've never taken a hit. I've seen way too many people get stung there to not be cautious though.
I've only stepped on a few live-and-slimy things at bolsa/sunset. Unfortunately for me, I got hit one of the few times I stepped on one, back on thanksgiving last year. I got lucky though, it wasn't too bad. It hurt for a while, but I was able to keep surfing on it. Aside from me though, I don't think I've witnessed anyone take a hit.

I guess it's just the luck of the draw though. It'd be a shame if he stopped surfing there because of the rays though, it can get really fun :)

Great meeting you too Squatty. Its great to see your son out there with you too. Thats awesome. I used to surf with my dad too and its actually quite the fun experience to share. Not too many people get the opportunity to share that kind of time with their parents. It definitely builds a nice relationship.

As for the ray situation.. yes, I knew the threat, I knew there were a lot out there, I was just slacking on my paranoia. I usually make it a point to rarely ever touch the ground when Im down there.. but this time I was just being lazy about it. Oh well. And now I know. hah.

OUCH !! DAMN!! That one's a keeper! ,,,,,but Ef the foot what happened to the surfboard??

Well.. it was a gang attack. One took out my foot.. and the rest carried away the board. Im sorry OG.. it was lost at sea. I hope you know, I tried to defend it.. but they got the best of me. You're board is gone.


..On a side note, guess what everyone, I just found a new board.. It's a 6'5 Quad fin.. looks almost identical to OG's old board. But I found this one and it's mine fair and square.

yep, surfing is great bc it's pure 'unstructured' fun. i've been a bit too critical on him when i coached his team sports bc i figured if i coached his teams he had to help me by being a role model. kinda tough for a lil kid to be a role model all the time. but we've come to terms with the whole youth sports thing and he prefers me to be an assistant so i can spend more time helping him improve his athletic skills individually and not worry about all the head coaching/team mgmt crapola. the kid still wants me around and wants me to teach him things on an individual level. so surfing (and golfing) with him has been way too fun. i think this is the summer he starts doing all of the paddling, duckdiving and dropping in by himself! good times fer sure! we're blessed.

Thats awesome man. I did the same.. grew up golfing with my dad (started when I was 5) and we started surfing and snowboarding together a few years ago. It's great. I always love to see that kind of stuff happening cause I know how much fun I have with it. Keep it up man. You're kid has a great thing and I'm sure he knows it.

That'll be great fun to see him duckin and dropping in and all that! Hopefully we all get some more outings together.

Not sure. Hodad and his wife were coming down.. not sure if they will be surfing Bolsa or what the situation is..

Hodad mentioned coming down and surfing...I think he's going to be in Venice. I haven't heard anything about Bolsa, though.
