Fins for quad setup on superfish?

Feb 03 09, 4:21 pm

Hey guys, I have a 6'8" superfish style board that can go as a thruster or a quad. Ive been riding it as a thruster since I got it but now looking at experimenting and testing it out as a quad. I dont know to much about fins. Any recommendations on a set of quad fins I should try on it? I mostly surf less then stellar conditions and just looking to give something new a try. I currently have FCS M7 thruster fins.

I ended up talking to the owner of the surf shop up the road and he recommended me go with the FCS G1000 for the outs and the GL for the smaller inners. Its the setup he uses on the same board and seems to highly recommend it. Going to give it a shot and see how they feel tommorrow morning before work. Ive only ridden thrusters so for so looking forward to experimenting.

In FCS I'd have to say run with the>> Rusty Quad<< set up it's an all around winner that suits a grip of surf styles very agresive yet forgiving,,, well,, as forgiving as a quad will be. first choice right there. But you could go with a set of G-XQ's and use your existing thruster fins as a quad set (that's what the G-XQ were made for but I'm no fan of em except for travel reasons. I say get a set of dedicated fins for the task at hand and run with some ripper Rusty Quads... Or best yet come on down and we'll rout out those plugs and set some boxes in there and ya can run with some Futures.... HA HA jus jokin get some Rusty's

What can I expect from running the Rusty Quad setup instead of the G1000 out GL in setup? I went out this morning with the g1000/gl fins the surfshop owner recommended to me. Had a fun time. Thing I noticed most was the speed and the lose feeling. Felt good besides the stability seemed a bit harder on the weaker waves. Is most fins interchangable? I have my M7 fins from my thruster setup can I pair these up with the g1000 or gl's for experimenting? or is that not really how it works? New to all this fin jazz. ha Thanks

I understand the many questions you have.. I have only surfed glassed in fins.. haha. So I have never actually had fins that could be changed. Imagine how lost I am.. hahah. :D

[quote="trifish"] Is most fins interchangable? Yes,, that's the wonderfull thin about removable fins you can come up with endless fin foil configurations. The one prime thing that the Rusty's will give ya is enginered foil and more drive they will be more responsive and have a tighter feel due primaraly to the fins being a stronger constuction and will have less drag in the water due to foils. I had some S-25 fins on a board and used my buds Rusty set instead and never gave em back to him. S-25's are ok but don't feel like they had enough hold (way loose feel) with the Rusty Quads I had more response to smaller stuff and hold in bigger stuff, less drag and all over a better feel.

But like I stated earlyer play around with fins hell pull all the sides and surf center fin for a bit to get the feel of what it was like long long ago,,,, skys the limit.
