Busted Fin Plugs (Out of the water until fixed :-/)

Aug 21 09, 8:26 pm

So I was at Seal today. I was having a blast. The wind wasn't too bad, and was interestingly changing rapidly(Glassy at times, even felt my first offshore wind! And the onshores weren't even that bad for the most part).
Long story short, I caught a nice wave, had a ton of fun and then broke my center fin. The plugs are split in half, the fin is somewhere in the pacific (Couldn't find it, sort of wanted it as a souvenier), and a little foam is showing. Doesn't seem to be too much damage to the glass around it.
I assumed this wasn't the sort of repair job a glass newbie could pull off, but I see a bunch of "Emergency Fin Repair" kits out there that seem incredibly basic. Is this a good first major repair project? Or should I leave it to a professional? If the latter, anyone know what someone would usually charge, or have any recommendations on where to take it?

I might also mention that I'm basically out of the water until I fix this, so time is a factor. I can feel the withdrawls already XD

Okay, that's it, we need a PA system for meetups. That'd be convenient.
All I know is the remaining fins are FCS G-AM, but here's a crappy cell phone picture. Hopefully it'll give an idea of what's going on.

(Yeah, I didn't rinse my board very well, didn't want to get any more water in there.)
