Removing Stuck Future Fins

I know I've talked about this with some of you guys in person before, but curious to hear from everyone else how they deal with the stuck Future Fins. Seems those things practically weld themselves to the box. I've managed to get mine out after a lot of jiggling and tugging ... always sweating that I might right the whole box out or warp it or the fins.

I fill the box cavity with water - lt it set a while, then covering the top back edge of the fin with a doubled up rag I tap upwards on it with a rubber mallet. Just did this last week on my quad and it took quite a few taps. Once tried lubricating the sides of a fin on another board with a waterproof type lubricant made for swimming pool valves and it just attracted more junk.

Water is by far the best thing pos to put in there, it is in hope that any salt will flush out. You allso have to consider that there is very fine silica and black sand that get's wedged in there so a lil wiggle is needed with the water. If that don't work and the fin is being a (@#$%$#@!!@#$%%$#@@#%) to get out ha ha ha well welcome to the wonderfull world of Future Fin boxes. I made a hardwood jig that is slightly wider and longer than a box laminated a ruber piece on it and routered out a slot in the middle, then I can slip it over the fin and apply even presure to the box/board clamping it in place. Then I'll rap em out with a small sized rubber mallet the jig protects the box/board from any pos damage. I only have to use it on rare occasions usally water, elbow grease and a lil patience work.

i snaped a future fin off and had nothing to get the base out.
I used a screw and put it what was left of the fin and was able to get it out that way.
One can use a rubber mallet and hit it softly.

Pretty straight forward video on removing stuck future fins made by a dude that works at Future Fins. Works good.

The key is to put some surf wax on them before you put them in, then they slide right back out.

That's good advice!
